About us — the Ramada Al-Raqi story since 1962

Ramada Al-Raqi Trading is a Jeddah company selling retail and wholesale: men’s fabrics, tailoring, and ready-made Sudanese clothing.

The story began in Jeddah in 1962.

The story

From one shop in Bab Sharif to a company with registered brands and branches across Jeddah — the Al-Hasani family’s story with fabric.

  1. 1962

    The beginning

Ali Mohammed Abdo Al-Hasani began his working life in Jeddah as a construction worker, then worked in trade as an employee of a local trader, and learned the market from the inside.

  2. Bab Sharif

    The first shop

He decided to work for himself and opened his own shop in Bab Sharif in Al-Balad, starting with goods on credit. His real capital was the trust of suppliers: good relationships and respectful dealing.

  3. 8 branches

    Growth

A young market and growing demand, despite fierce price competition among traders. The branches grew to eight, and we rented warehouses to keep pace with demand.

  4. 1981

    Fabrics and Sudanese wear

We began selling fabrics and Sudanese wear to local traders.

  5. Sukruta

    Our first brand

Adel Al-Hasani founded the first brand under the Ramada Al-Raqi umbrella: “Original Sukruta — Abu Ghazalain”, through an agreement he signed with the supplier mill in Japan. The “Tarraf” brand followed, and the modern commercial registrations of Ramada Al-Raqi Trading Company began.

  6. 2006

    Sudanese wear

We began making and sewing Sudanese wear locally in our own workshop.

  7. 2008

    Tailoring

On 10 January 2008 Adel Al-Hasani founded the tailoring department, run today by the manager of the tailoring branch.

  8. 2011

    Ready-made Sudanese clothing

We began importing ready-made Sudanese clothing from mills in India and China to our designs, and added it to our fabrics and tailoring.

  9. 2017

From the ledger to a system

The warehouses used to be run from the memory of the storekeeper, and only a skilled warehouse worker could find an item. Barcodes came with computers, and in 2017 our accountant built our accounting system, which he still runs today.

  10. Today

    With the redevelopment of Jeddah

Demolition and redevelopment projects in Jeddah in 2022 took five of our eight branches in Bab Sharif. The Al-Haraj branch (three shopfronts) stopped operating on 19 March 2024 because of a dispute between the landowner and the municipality over the land, which is still unresolved. Thank God, we serve our customers today from our branches in Jeddah and from the management office in Al-Hindawiyah.

What really sets us apart

Three strengths, in detail:

We stand out in Japanese fabric and in tailoring the Saudi thobe, and the market knows us for their quality. We also stand out in ready-made Sudanese clothing — fabric, cut and stitching — so our customers come back.

Where our fabrics come from

Our link with Japan began with the Original Sukruta brand: an agreement signed by Adel Al-Hasani with Mr Yamanaka, manager of the supplier mill in Japan.
